Faithfulness is the concept of unfailingly remaining loyal to someone or something, and putting that loyalty into consistent practice regardless of extenuating circumstances.
Faithfulness may be exhibited by a husband or a wife who does not engage in sexual relationships outside the marriage. It can also mean keeping one’s promises no matter the prevailing circumstances, such as certain communities of monks who take a vow of silence. Literally, faithfulness is the state of being full of faith in the sense of steady devotion to a person, thing or concept.
According to the Bible, to be faithful is to be reliable, steadfast and unwavering, and the Bible speaks of this type of faithfulness as an attribute of God.
Throughout the bible, we see the faithfulness of God to His people ‘Israel’ – in their disobedience to Him and trusting their own ways, but God remained faithful – keeping His promises to them.
In the same way, God is faithful to us and will always keep his promise to us – never to leave us or disown us. The many times we follow our own ways – just like in the story of the prodigal son – God never disowns us but always has His arms open and ready to welcome us back (Luke 15 v11 – 32). With this knowledge, we can confidently come to Him at any time under any circumstance, knowing that He will not reject us.
Let us thank God for his faithfulness.
With best wishes
